Verdi’s famous opera La Traviata was staged by Franco Zeffirelli at The State Academic Bolshoi Theatre on December 11-13, 2003. La Traviata is a new project of the Arturo Toscanini Foundation. The performance was sponsored by Alfa-Bank and Mercury.
Best Monographic Museum Show in the USA in 2002-2003
On January 12, 2004, the US ART CRITICS ASSOCIATION, the United States arm of the International Association of Art Critics, awarded the exhibition titled “Kazimir Malevich: Suprematism” with the prize for the Best Monographic Museum Show organised nationally in 2002-2003.
The exhibition was co-organised by the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and The Menil Collection, Houston.
«Kazimir Malevich: Suprematism» was the first exhibition to focus exclusively on this defining moment in the artist’s career. It included approximately 100 paintings, drawings, and objects taken from major public and private collections around the world. The exhibition showed works that had never been shown in the West before, including several recently rediscovered masterpieces. The exhibition, for the first time, demonstrated the importance of drawing to the artist’s broader oeuvre.
The exhibition at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York was sponsored by Alfa-Bank.
Paul McCartney’s performance in Moscow formed part of his European tour Back in the World 2003, his first tour in 10 years. McCartney’s concert included more than 30 songs, including unforgettable Beatles hits, Wings compositions, and more recent songs. The stage was set up between St Basil’s Cathedral and the Spasskaya Tower of the Kremlin. Big screens were installed in Red Square so that spectators could watch and enjoy the show. The giant show fulfilled a personal dream for Paul McCartney, who wrote The Beatles song “Back In The USSR” in the Sixties.
